The physicist and inventor laid a crucial foundation for the modern semiconductor industry, the digital revolution and artificial intelligence.
Today, as the possibilities and limits of AI raise increasingly fundamental questions, Faggin offers a different perspective. Drawing on quantum physics and the philosophy of science, he puts forward a clear proposition: technology may be able to imitate intelligence, but consciousness is neither an algorithm nor a sequence of electrical impulses that can be reproduced in silicon. It lies at the heart of human nature – and is what makes us unique and irreplaceable.
