Im Gewerbegebiet von Glurns ragt der 13 Meter hohe Kubus der Puni-Destillerie wie eine Kasbah aus fremder Welt heraus – eine symbolhafte Landmarke. Es war die geniale Idee des Architekten, die gesamte Technik sowie alle Verkaufs- und Nebenräume in einem Würfel aus Ziegelsteinen unterzubringen, der nach dem System der alten, luftdurchlässigen Ziegelwände bäuerlicher Stadel konstruiert wurde. So wirkt das Mauerwerk sowohl von außen und als auch von innen transparent und setzt sich im Untergeschoss, wo sich der blitzblanke Gärkessel und der Brennkolben befinden, als massive Gewölbekonstruktion fort. Eine überzeugende Einheitlichkeit der Materialwahl, die auf die Klarheit der Produkte aus dieser Destillerie – der ersten für Whisky in Italien – hinweist. Alle Details mit Glas und Stahl sind ebenso qualitätvoll entwickelt worden wie die Ziegelkonstruktion.

L’idea geniale dell’architetto è stata quella di alloggiare tutti gli impianti tecnici, oltre che i locali di vendita e di servizio, in un cubo di mattoni realizzato con la tecnologia costruttiva tradizionale dei fienili della regione, cioè con le pareti in laterizio forate e permeabili all’aria. Le stesse pareti che appaiono trasparenti sia dall’esterno che dall’interno, proseguono al piano interrato, dove sono collocati la scintillante caldaia per la fermentazione e l’alambicco, dando origine a una massiccia struttura a volta. È sorprendente l’unitarietà nella scelta dei materiali, che fanno riferimento alla limpidezza dei prodotti di questa distilleria, la prima in Italia dedicata al whisky. Tutti i dettagli in acciaio e vetro sono stati disegnati con grande attenzione alla qualità, come del resto le strutture in laterizio.
