Unterhalb des strahlend weißen Klosters Marienberg liegt etwas düster, die aus dem dunklen Stein des Ortes gemauerte Fürstenburg, errichtet 1278. Der Einsturz des Bergfrieds 1996 war Anlass für eine Sanierung mit Umbau und Erweiterung in zwei Bauabschnitten. Zunächst wurden die historischen Bauteile gesichert und durch moderne Einbauten für den Heimtrakt in Stahl und Glas ergänzt, um das alte Mauerwerk mit lichter Transparenz zu ergänzen. Danach wurden außerhalb der Ringmauern neue Schulräume in den Berg hineingebaut, um der gestiegenen Schülerzahl zu entsprechen. Von außen ist hier nur eine geschosshohe Mauer im gleichen dunklen Naturstein zu sehen. Im Inneren wurde um die Lichthöfe herum wieder mit Bauteilen aus Glas und Stahl gearbeitet und der neue Bauteil im Hang ansteigend mit begrüntem Erdreich überdeckt. In alte Substanz ist neue Frische eingezogen.

Beneath the glowing white walls of the Marienberg Abbey lies the somewhat dingier Fürstenburg, built from regional stone in 1278. A collapse of the castle’s keep in 1996 brought about the renovation, including a restructuring and extension, which was carried out in two phases. It began by securing the historical parts of the building and extending the home wing with modern fixtures made from steel and glass in order to provide the old stonewalls with more light transparency. New schoolrooms in the mountain were then constructed outside of the curtain wall to accommodate the increasing number of pupils. It appears from the outside to be a wall one story high made from the same dark stone as the castle. On the inside, the courtyard has been modernized with structural components made of glass and steel and there is a new section of building work climbing up the mountainside, covered in earth and plants. From something old was born something new.

Ai piedi del bianco e luminoso convento di Marienberg sorge il più introverso castello di Fürstenburg, edificato nel 1278 in pietra scura locale. Il crollo del mastio, avvenuto nel 1996, ha fornito l’occasione per un intervento di risanamento che prevedeva una fase di ristrutturazione e una di ampliamento. Per prima cosa le emergenze storiche sono state messe in sicurezza e integrate con nuovi volumi a uso residenziale in acciaio e vetro che si innestano sulle murature antiche creando un luminoso effetto di trasparenza. Successivamente fuori dalla cinta muraria è stato realizzato, entro la linea del pendio, un gruppo di nuove aule scolastiche per far fronte all’accresciuto numero di studenti. Di questo secondo intervento all’esterno si vede solo un muro alto un piano, costruito con la stessa pietra scura del castello. All’interno le piccole corti di illuminazione sono delimitate sempre da pareti in acciaio e vetro, mentre il nuovo volume che risale il pendio è ricoperto da uno strato di terreno erboso. L’intervento conferisce un senso di novità e di freschezza alle preesistenze storiche.
